Kai was born in Freiburg, Germany in 1982. When he was six months old his family moved to Quito, Ecuador where they lived for seven years until returning to Germany. After finishing secondary school Kai followed his love and fascination for film and dramatic stories and began shooting short films and music videos. In 2002 he began studying Film Making Arts at Middlesex University in London. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he attended the prestigious Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany to study directing.
In 2008 Kai decided to focus on commercials. His spec ads were extremely well received by student film festivals. Kai has since racked up several nominations and awards. His final academic film, „Flowers“, won numerous honors. Kai was also regularly shortlisted at the Young Director’s Award in Cannes. In 2012 Kai finished his degree and signed exclusively with CZAR. In his first year, three of his films (Rebirth, No Belt Needed, Aktion Mensch) were selected as Shots Magazine contenders. From 2016 Kai is represented for the Czech Republic by Boogiefilms. Kai is conceptually strong and versatile. He loves visual storytelling, but his biggest passion is films with comedic offbeat dialogue and genius timing.
